3D Home Walkthrough Checklist
Use this 3D house walkthrough checklist to review furniture, kitchens, doors, privacy and circulation before approving your Chennai home design.
What to Check During a 3D Home Walkthrough Before Approving Your Chennai House Plan
A 3D house walkthrough can help you understand the proposed spaces before construction begins. To get useful answers from it, review the model as somewhere you will live: enter the house, move through the rooms and test ordinary activities.
For homeowners planning house construction in Chennai, the main benefit is a clearer design conversation. An attractive presentation is only the starting point. The review should lead to specific decisions that are reflected in the approved drawings.
Check the Model’s Starting Assumptions
Before assessing the rooms, ask which drawing revision the model represents. Confirm that the plot orientation, floor levels, room dimensions and major openings correspond to the current proposal.
Ask whether furniture is modelled at realistic sizes and which finishes are illustrative. A compact sofa or an omitted wardrobe can make a room look easier to use than it will be.
Keep the dimensioned plans available during the session. Use the walkthrough to investigate questions, then verify them against the relevant drawings.
Follow the Arrival Route
Begin at the gate rather than the living-room centre. Review the route from parking to the main door, the entrance landing and where someone would wait while the door is opened.
Check what visitors see first. Does the entry expose a bedroom or bathroom? Is there a practical place for footwear or deliveries? Can family members enter without moving through furniture?
These decisions are easier to discuss when everyone follows the same route through the model.
Review Rooms With the Intended Furniture
In each bedroom, check the bed, wardrobe and door together. Ask to see the space needed to open wardrobe shutters or drawers and move beside the bed.
In living and dining areas, review circulation with chairs in use, not only pushed neatly under the table. Consider where people pass when someone is watching television or working at a desk.
Check window access too. A window behind a large piece of furniture may look attractive in a render but be awkward to operate or clean.
Test the Kitchen and Utility Relationship
Review where ingredients arrive, where they are stored and how people move between preparation, cooking and washing areas. Include the appliances you actually intend to use.
Ask to check refrigerator and cabinet openings, waste-bin locations and the route to the utility space. If two people commonly cook together, examine their movement at the same time.
Record appliance requirements separately for coordination with the service drawings. Their appearance in a model does not confirm that the necessary connections have been designed.
Examine Doors, Stairs and Privacy
Check door swings at bathrooms, passages and bedroom entries. Look for conflicts between doors, cabinets and circulation routes.
Use the model to understand the staircase’s position, landing arrangement and relationship to nearby spaces. The architect and engineer must still verify dimensions, headroom, guarding and other applicable requirements.
Review sightlines from shared spaces into private rooms. In a multigenerational home, also check whether daily activities can happen without everyone crossing the same private zone.
Understand What the Walkthrough Cannot Prove
A model can communicate intended form and spatial relationships. It does not certify structural safety, approval compliance, waterproofing performance or the quality of future construction.
Rendered daylight and material colours also depend on modelling and display settings. Ask which features are simulated and whether a separate technical assessment or physical sample is needed.
LB’s VR design and planning service includes visualisation alongside design documentation. The walkthrough should be reviewed together with that documentation.
Turn Comments Into an Approval Record
Do not finish with a general instruction such as “make the kitchen better.” Record the room, issue, agreed change and person responsible for updating it.
For each important change, ask:
-
Which drawings or schedules will be revised?
-
Does the change affect the structure or services?
-
Is there an effect on the agreed scope?
-
When will the revised version be reviewed?
Approve a named revision after the changes have been coordinated. Retain the decision record with the design documents.
Frequently Asked Questions
Do I need a VR headset?
LB offers walkthrough sessions using standard screens as well as immersive viewing options. Ask which format is suitable for your review and whether family members can join remotely.
Will finishes look exactly like the model?
Not necessarily. Screen settings, lighting and the actual product can affect appearance. Approve physical samples and written specifications where those decisions matter.
Can I approve construction based only on a walkthrough?
The walkthrough should support approval of a coordinated design package. It does not replace dimensioned architectural drawings, structural information or service layouts.
